Computerized animal record system

Zoo is a member of International Species Information System and all the records pertaining to animal birth, death, animal number, acquisition, disposal etc. are being recorded as per the protocol of Zoological Information Management System. The stud book data for the important species has been put in the national and international stud books. Most of the animals of endangered and non endangered species are microchiped to maintain their individual identity

Infrastructure for animal health care

The well equipped veterinary hospital has been established to render the quality health care services to the housed animals. The current infrastructure suffice the need for any medical management, surgical maneuvers and basic diagnostic tests. The diagnostic tools like portable X ray machine, ultrasound machine, trinacular microscope, centrifuge machine etc. have been made available in the facility. For the remote drug delivery system, blowpipe, tranquilizing gun and pistol are readily available for the veterinary wing. The well planed quarantine facility is established adjacent to the hospital section for the important mammalian species. The post mortem and crematorium are established nearby the hospital to carry out autopsy examination and disposal of carcass.

Trained Manpower

To cater the quality upkeep and healthcare services to the captive wild fauna zoo management has employed two trained Veterinarians, two livestock supervisors and two head animal keepers. The subordinate staff including the Mahout and animals keepers are well versed and adequately trained to look after the essential services to the animals.

Preventive disease management

The standard preventive disease management protocol is in place to check the common diseases of captive wild animals. The vaccination is done in the felids, canids, primates, ursids and proboscides periodically on annual basis. Deworming is carried out quarterly, based on the test results of fecal samples analysis. The drinking water samples are tested for microbial analysis and other essential parameters to assess it’s consumption fitness. The beef is also tested for microbial analysis to ensure the contamination free food to the captive carnivores. All the staff members are screened for zoonotic and other infectious diseases regularly to avoid the disease transmission from human to animal and vice versa.
